I thought it might be interesting to gauge the progress of the Victorian Election and campaigns using our Gaawk social aggregator platform. The aim would be to see what people are saying, and how they are responding to the campaign.
The result, a truckload of newspaper references and mentions from all the traditional sources. All the parties used the social networks to blast out their messages, but when it came to actual conversations and mentions from everyone else………. almost complete silence. Except for the odd “crap, I forgot to vote” and “how annoying are the people at the front of the polling booths”.
From a Gaawk perspective, this is a strong indicator that the parties need to do far more to generate conversation, as opposed to using social media as a traditional communications outlet.
